HUMAN RIGHTS
Ending injustice is a massive task – it requires institutional reform around the world – but that does not mean we are powerless. We all can contribute something, whether it is being the voice for others or supporting rescue and rehabilitation efforts for those in unjust situations. Together, we can raise greater awareness of deep-seated human rights issues and create change.
PROTECT A COLOMBIAN CHILD FROM SEXUAL EXPLOITATION
Project managed by: Children Change Colombia
Project Description
Protect children who have been affected by or is at risk of conflict-related violence and commercial sexual exploitation in some of the most marginalised neighbourhoods in Colombia. By providing theatre, dance and music workshops and psychosocial support, children can strengthen their socioemotional capacities to overcome the trauma they suffer as a result of their experiences and will learn how to identify and protect themselves from risks and future violence. Your support contributes to the cost of the activities and part of the psychologists and social workers’ salaries.
Sexual violence and commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) violates children’s rights, damages their health, welfare and development, and increases their vulnerability to further violence. It is estimated that 35,000 children in Colombia are affected by CSEC. It is difficult to give exact figures as the stigma means that large numbers of cases go unreported.
In general, this issue occurs in a complex reality of social disintegration, violence, high unemployment rates and poverty, as well as a general lack of opportunities that contribute to the exacerbation of the vulnerability of victims. This project is run in the cities of Quibdó, Cartagena and Bogotá. Since 2016 we have worked with 4,160 children and young people.

GIVE A WATER WELL TO PROVIDE FRESH, CLEAN WATER
Project managed by: Every Home Global Concern
Project Description
Provide access to clean water for life by sponsoring a simple well and water pump. In the villages of Malawi, high infant and child mortality are caused by water and sanitation related diseases. These problems are made even worse by a lack of knowledge about proper hygiene. Your contribution of a well and water pump well make such a difference to the life of a family in Malawi.
MORE ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Over the last three years (2016-2019) 156 shallow water wells have been built in Malawi and Zambia, giving 17,678 men, women and children access to clean water.
This results in less time wasted walking to find clean water some distance away and enables people to work more regularly as trips to the doctor and hospital visits are reduced and waterborne diseases become less common. There has been an 81% reduction in diarrhoea and no cholera outbreaks in the region for 3 years.
